Esteban Ocon: "We have plans for more updates"
After a lot of bad luck in the early phase of the season, Alpine is starting to perform better and better. Esteban Ocon had a technical defect in Silverstone, but drove to sixth and fifth place in Canada and Austria. In the run-up to his home race at Circuit Paul Ricard, the Frenchman is in eighth place among the drivers. Ocon hopes to be able to compete with the Mercedes cars in the short term.
Ocon was already five times better than teammate Fernando Alonso in qualifying and leads in the races with 7-4. Nevertheless, Ocon prefers to look at the battle with Mercedes, he says in an interview with Channel 4. "We have improved the car, but not enough yet to be able to compete with Mercedes. You should always aim to perform better. It seems ambitious, but hopefully we can compete with them someday. We have plans for more updates. With the Silverstone update, we have already taken a big step, now we want more."
The Frenchman is satisfied with his season so far. "Things are going well at the moment and I'm happy about that. Every race is extremely close. Fernando pushes continuously and that brings extra performance to the team. We are very satisfied with our collaboration that we started last year."
